OCEANIA DX CONTEST 2014 RESULTS

OCEANIA DX CONTEST 2014 RESULTS

The Oceania DX (OCDX) contest committee is pleased to announce that the results of the 2014 OCDX contest are now available at http://www.oceaniadxcontest.com/2014_Results.htm .

Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to everyone who made it a success by participating, even if only to make one or two QSOs.

The excellent band conditions over the PHONE weekend resulted in a record number of PHONE logs along with the highest level of PHONE activity ever recorded in the contest on the 10M band. New records were set for the numbers of PHONE logs from Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines. There was also a heightened level of activity in both the PHONE and CW sections from rarer Oceania entities including V84, 9M6, T32, KH2, KH7, V63, DU, 5W, A35 and YJ. This increased activity from Oceania stations is encouraging, as growing Oceania participation is critical for attracting more participation from stations outside Oceania. We especially appreciate the efforts of the operators who activate the rarer entities – both resident operators and others who spend considerable time, energy and money to travel to these entities to put them on the air in the contest.

OCDX CONTEST RECORDS

A total of 49 new continent records and 213 new country records were set in the 2014 contest. Many of the new records relate to the new QRP categories that were introduced in the 2014 contest. A detailed list of all the continent and country records is published on our web site at hhttp://www.oceaniadxcontest.com/results.htm .

2014 CERTIFICATES

Certificates have been awarded to the top scoring station in each category for each continent and country. Additionally, a participation certificate identifying the number of successful QSOs has been awarded to each station that participated in the contest. The certificates are available online for downloading and printing by individual entrants at their convenience. The web links to the certificates are published on our web site at http://www.oceaniadxcontest.com/2014_Results.htm .

SILENT KEYS

We are sad to report that the 2014 contest was the last one in which Mirek Rozbicki VK6DXI (formerly SP5IXI) and Lee Jennings ZL2AL will participate. Both Mirek and Lee have passed away since the 2014 contest.

Mirek VK6DXI was an enthusiastic participant and supporter of the OCDX contest for many years, including being a member of the OCDX Committee since 2006.  He was the generous sponsor of the Frank Vander Drift VK3COF Memorial Plaque for the highest scoring station from Europe in the CW SO ALL category, and was instrumental in establishing the VKCC award for the top scoring VK club in the contest. We are pleased to advise that Slawek Barciuk VK3CTN has kindly offered to pick up the ongoing sponsorship of the plaque for the Europe CW SO ALL category and this will now be known as the VK6DXI Memorial Plaque – in recognition and memory of Mirek’s significant contribution to the OCDX contest and amateur radio contesting more generally.

Lee ZL2AL has also been a passionate supporter of the OCDX contest for many years and was the founder and leader of the ZM4T (formerly ZM2M) contest team which has entered the contest regularly since 2009.
